Message	at the top, and how big? It's all in how it is done. The floor is probably used as a diaphragm in the analysis of the structure. Picture the web of a wide flange beam. If horizontal load is applied to the back of the car (bumper), the trunk floor helps keep the back from deflecting sideways.
